I really wish someone would draw some POC versions of Normal-chan and Othergirls-sempai, but I feel like it’s not really my place to do it. I would love to see some, though! I liked some of the headcanons about one of them trans*, too…From the start, something about a cis white girl establishing herself as “the norm” and shaming “other girls” felt gross to me, although I suppose that was the whole point- the origins of the meme were meant as a parody to mock people who do that. (That’s the impression I got, anyway.) I think that’s also why the ship has picked up so much momentum, everyone on Tumblr can probably relate to that elitism and shaming that goes on here. Except this takes those personifications and makes them kiss? Everyone wins?
I don’t really get how this got so big. I am just really happy to see a girlxgirl ship become “mainstream” for once. Feels good man. <3
Aaaah, I really shouldn’t get letting myself get sucked up by Tumblr memes, I have a lot of my own work to do! O_O
P.S. Hello new followers! <3
My headcanon is that Othergirl-sempai is actually a very socially aware critical thinker and doesn’t give a crap what people think of her based on her looks. She earned every penny she spent on modding that bod.
Meanwhile, Normal-chan is well-meaning but naive and shallow fangirl who can be quite bratty. Despite having quite low self esteem, she still thinks she’s better than everyone else. It’s complicated.
